Walk For Wild Salmon (Laterra & Cosy)

Organized by Walk for wild salmon (Laterra & Cosy)

....AND THE JOURNEY CONTINUES FOR ALL OF US
The number of people at the rally on May 8th were mistakenly reported in a couple of newspapers as WAY lower than they actually were. But now it's good to see some major newspapers correcting their error in print. The new estimates are between 5 to 7 thousand.
Regardless of the controversy of how many people were there, let's remember that the real work continues to be up to each and every individual - please write one more letter to a politician - your MP, your MLA, Stephen Harper, your local newspaper, etcâ?¥

And a note from Alexandra Morton: "Thank you to the seven thousand people who showed up to tell government to get salmon farms out of our ocean!!! I was told you would not show up, but you DID! Some are pretending you don't exist, but we know the truth! We need to stick together and grow. Keep letting people know about the petiti...on at http://salmonaresacred.org/petition-protect-wild-salmon
and we will persist until we bring reason to this situation and get to keep our fish! You are a force that future generations will thank you forever".

Thankyou's
A great chance tonight (May 10) to meet, welcome home, and thank Cosy and Laterra. They have been invited to attend the opening of the Indigenous Film Festival tonight at the Clayoquot Sound Theater. So arrive early at 8 pm or 8:30 pm to talk with them and see some of our photos from the epic walk to save wild salmon.

A big thankyou goes out to the people who contributed financial aid to help Cosy and Laterra, and cousin Terri-Lee from Port Alberni on their 2 week walk to Victoria. Steve and Suzanne and Courtney and Brennan drove in support vehicles. While they camped almost every night, and stayed in a hotel on the second last night, your contributions helped immensely with costs on the road.

Everyone plays different parts in this effort to save our wild salmon and your help was a vital part of it.

FINAL DAY OF RALLY
The final day of the walk was phenomenal!! Between five and seven! thousand people came to show how much they care about salmon and this sacred web of life that we are all a part of! The biggest environmental rally EVER seen at the legislature. The whole village of Kingcombe Inlet walked on the last day to show their sup...port for Molina and the movement to save the wild salmon. And everyone sang happy birthday to Laterra on the lawns of the legislature - Happy Birthday Laterra, we all love ya!!
Day 5
Day 5 - Walking from Whiskey Creek to Qualicum today where they will enjoy a welcomed couple days off and heal aching muscles, while they wait for Alexandra's arrival! Except for the Malahat, the hardest, steepest part of the walk will be behind them.

It's really amazing and exciting how big this walk is building to be!! You are encouraged to go to www.salmonaresacred.org to see some of the latest videos and news clips and really get inspired!! Write another letter, sign the petition, come to the rally if possible on May 8th, or join the walk enroute, even if for just a couple of hours!!

Day 4
Day 4 - 11 year old Terri-Lee Manson from Port Alberni has joined Cosy and Laterra on the walk!!
On Day 3 Cosy and Laterra walked from Taylor Arm into Port Alberni where Green Party representative joined them and walked them into town. A local restaurant gifted them a free dinner and a local hotel gifted them a welcomed stay.

A good send off in the morning of Day 4 with over 20 people walking them out of town. Sobo's again delivered lunch. They made it to Whiskey Creek where they are camped for the night.

Day 2 and 3
Day 2 - We didn't hear any news from the walkers all day and evening as they were out of cell phone range in the mountains, - but many people thought of them all day and evening, as it rained and rained...!!
But now the news is: A woman from Taiwan, after camping over night with them at Kennedy Lake, walked all morning with Cosy and Laterra. Strangers honked and cheered and gave them the thumbs up, and many people from Ahousaht and Tofino travelling, sadly, for a funeral, stopped with words of encouragemnet and donations of food and money.
A small celebration as they reached the summit, then they kept walking...and it kept pouring...and they set up camp for the night in the rest area near Taylor Arm.

Day 3 - Cosy and Laterra are still smiling, and aching! A retired man from Sproat Lake approached to announce he is walking with them tomorrow morning for several hours when they leave Port Alberni. He told us his 93 year old blind mother chided him, "Of course you are walking with them! It's a very GOOD thing to do. I would be going with them if I could. It's very important, you know."

As I drove home to Tofino (from an early morning appt in Port) it started to rain again like it did yesterday. I was SO amazed at how far they have walked, especially when I saw the highway from Hydro Hill as it snaked around curves and up and over and down steep mountain slopes and on and on for miles......and so amazed and humbled by their determination to make a difference.
If you haven't remembered yet to ask your friends to ask their friends to ask their friends to sign the petition at salmonaresacred.org - now would be a good time!â?¥

Day 1
Day 1 - Cosy called me on her cell phone. (We kept loosing the signal and tomorrow they will probably be out of cell phone range for the next two days.) They have made it to the Black Hole in the pass, and have made a camp for the evening. Sore feet, but happy.

They had an amazing walk, feeling uplifted by the tremendous send-off they received by so many people; blessed by Levi Martin from the Tla-o-qui-aht band; impressed at the arrival of the horses from the Clayoquot Wilderness Resort in Bedwell Sound; and honoured to walk with Rose Wilson, an elder from Ittatsoo.

Eagles watched them, tree hopping all the way from Chestermans Beach to Esowista! Then, just past Esowista, a black wolf walked out of the forest, crossed the highway and sat down and watched them for awhile before disappearing into the forest.
Blessed by wolf and eagle at the beginning of their migration! An omen of good things to come!

Walking to save our wild salmon
My 11yr old daughter Laterra and I are walking to try and save the last of our wild salmon here on the cost. Walking from Tofino to Victoria B.C. (316km) we are in need of donations to offset the cost of fuel, food and accommodation for the two week journey. We are the west coast part of the Save The Wild Salmon/Get Out Migration in which there are a number of people from all over B.C. walking from their home towns and rivers to get Government to take seriously the very close and inevitable extinction of our wild salmon and hundreds of birds and animals that rely on them if they donâ??t make huge changes and make the protection of our wild stock their #1 priority. Laterra and I are grateful for anything that you could contribute to this very important and vital cause!

For our salmon~
